SAINT LEONARD, SHOREDITCH, MIDDLESEX.
Act for the Regulation of Bakehouses.
The Vestry of this Parish being the local authority appointed to
enforce the provisions of the 26th and 27th Vic. c. 40—"An Act
for the Regulation of Bakehouses,"—have ordered to be printed and
circulated the following Extracts of such Act, for the information and
guidance of the Bakers within the Parish, and have to request their
attention thereto.
REGULATIONS to be observed in this Parish, under the Act of
the 26th and 27th Victoria, cap. 40, "An Act for the
Regulation of Bake-houses"
By the Interpretation Clause, the word "Bake-house" is intended to
mean any place in which are baked Bread, Biscuits, or Confectionery,
from the baking or selling of which a profit is derived.
BY SECTION III, it is enacted:- That no person under the age of 18
years shall be employed in any bake-house between the hours of Nine of
the clock at night, and Five of the clock in the morning.
And the occupier of the bakehouse in which such person is so employed
shall be liable to the following penalties for each person so employed:
that is to say—
For the first offence, a sum not exceeding £2.
For a second offence ditto £5.
For a third and every subsequent offence, a sum not exceeding £1 for
each day of the continuance of the employment, so that no greater
penalty be imposed than £10.
BY THE SECTION IV of such Act, it is enacted:—That the inside walls
and ceiling or top of every bakehouse, and the passages and staircase
leading thereto, shall either be painted with oil, or be lime-washed, or
