years, and they are the annual proportion of 17.4
births, 17.7 deaths, and 10.9 marriages per 1000 of
the population, according to the census of 1861. In
all England the averages are .5.1 births, 22.6 deaths,
and 8.4 marriages per 1000 of the people.
I am not able to distribute the marriages, as I
have hitherto done among the several Unions of the
City, because, on the 1st of January last, the East
and West London Unions were incorporated with
the City of London Union, by direction of the Poor
Law Board, and from that time the whole of the
marriages in the City have been returned under one
heading, namely, "The City of London Union;"
but the births and deaths of the three Unions were
as follow:—
