Shop Inspection.—This includes the inspection of butchers' shops, fish shops, fruit
shops, sausage factories, and other premises where foodstuffs are sold or prepared for
sale, as well as stalls, barrows, etc., from which perishable foods are sold.
These have received a total of 9,938 visits during the year, and the observations
concerning them as a whole have been satisfactory.
Although the animals killed in the private slaughterhouses within the Borough
may possibly not represent more than 20 per cent. of the meat consumed, it is satisfactory
to report that the meat derived from other sources is generally also of good quality.
