TYPHUS FEVER.
No case of this disease was notified, and, indeed, during the last 17 years
only 16 cases altogether were known, of which 4 occurred since 1001.
In London only 5 cases occurred.
ERYSIPELAS.
This disease was reported as attacking 252 persons, which contrasts very
favourable with the average of 207 in the years 1807-1006. The attack rate
was equal to 0.73 per thousand of the inhabitants, as compared with a rate of
0.86 that obtained in the previous 10 years. In the Metropolis the rate was
0.04, and in the Encircling Boroughs 0.96 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Hospital Isolation.—Forty-eight cases, or 19.1 per cent., were treated
in hospital, whither they had generally gone in the first instance for treatment,
and whence they had been notified.
Fatality.—As there were only 13 deaths among the 252 cases, the
tatality was only 5.1 per cent. This rate is slightly lower than that of the
preceding years, when it was 5.8.
