ENTERIC FEVER.
To this fever 99 cases, the smallest number hitherto notified in a year,
were ascribed as compared with an average of 2.20 in the preceding decennium.
Such a decrease, amounting to 68 per cent., is very satisfactory. These
cases were equal to an attack rate of 0.26 per 1,000 as compared with one of
0.64 in the 10 years 1897-1906. In London the rate was 0.29 per 1,000
inhabitants, and in the Encircling Boroughs 0.30.
Hospital Isolation. 77 cases, or 83.7 per cent., were removed to
hospital for treatment and isolation.
Fatality.—13 deaths occurred among the 92 cases, and the fatality rate
was therefore 14.1 per cent., which, with the exception of the rate of the
preceding year, when it was 12.7, is the lowest of which there is a record in
Islington.
