The attack-rate compares very favourably with the record of other places, for it was not only below the rate for the County of London, but also below that of any of the six boroughs which surround Islington, with the exception of Hornsey.

In the Quarters.—In the first quarter there were 431 cases notified,
which were equal to an attack rate of 4.96 per 1,000 inhabitants, and they
were 104 below the corrected average (535) which had obtained in the first
quarters of the preceding ten years.
In the same quarter the attack rate in London was 6.47 per 1,000, while
in the boroughs surrounding Islington it was 6.27 per 1,000.
In the second quarter 450 cases were known, equal to an annual attack
rate of 5.19 per 1,000, and 77 below the average (527) of the second quarters
of the preceding ten years. In London the attack rate was 7.01 per 1,000 of
the inhabitants, or l.82 higher than in Islington, while the rate in the encircling
boroughs was exactly the same as in London.
In the third quarter the total number of cases notified was 516, which
produced an annual attack rate of 5.95 per 1,000 of the inhabitants, and they
were 149 below the corrected average (665) which obtained in the third quarters
of the preceding ten years.
In London, in the same quarter, the attack rate was 9.23 per 1,000, or
3.28 higher than Islington, while in the encircling boroughs it was 8 91, or
2.96 higher than the local rate.
