or in some other local institution such as the Great Northern Hospital. In
the former institution 391 strangers died, and in the latter 105. The other
institutions in which the deaths of strangers occurred are set out in Table LXXI.
Inhabitants.—Of the 1,082 citizens who died in the local hospitals and
homes, 760 deaths took place in the Islington Infirmary, 151 in the Islington
Workhouse, 130 in the Great Northern Hospital, 4 in the Memorial Cottage
Hospital, and 4 in the Aged Blind Home. The other deaths occurred in
some of the smaller institutions of the Borough.
Noil-inhabitants.— In addition to the 105 persons who died in the Great
Northern Hospital, and the 391 who died in the Holborn Infirmary, 9 died
in the London Fever Hospital, 8 in the Memorial Cottage Hospital,
19 in St. Pelagia's Creche, 5 in the Metropolitan Benefit Society's Asylum,
7 in the Aged Blind Home, 2 at the Whittington College, 6 at St. Andrew's
Nursing Home, 2 at the Invalid Home, Highbury Terrace, and 1 in the
Shoreditch Workhouse, an institution recently established in Islington.

Without the Borough.—656 persons belonging to Islington died in
outside institutions, or 48 more than the average of the preceding 10 years.
Of these deaths 94 occurred in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, 57 in the Hospital
for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, 46 in University College Hospital,
40 in the Royal Free Hospital, 33 in the Middlesex Hospital, 31 in the North
Western Fever Hospital, 29 in the Metropolitan Hospital, 24 in the North
Eastern Fever Hospital, and 23 in the Claybury Asylum. The remaining
deaths occurred in other institutions as set out in Table LXXIII.
Within and Without the Borough.—Altogether 1,738 inhabitants of
Islington, as compared with an average of 1,524 in the preceding 10 years,
died in public or charitable institutions situate within or without the Borough.
Accidental and sudden deaths without the Borough. - In addition
to the above deaths, there occurred outside the Borough 29 accidental or
sudden deaths of Islingtonians, which are set out at the end of Table LXXIII.
