Committee that the size of the district to be supplied, and the particular
conditions attending it, must to a very large degree determine the
system to be adopted. One of the most important arguments put
forward in favor of the low tension system is that it can be used for
motor power. The question therefore arises, is there likely to be any
great demand for electrical energy for motor power in this Parish ? If
there is, the point deserves serious consideration, but if, on the
contrary, such demand is likely to be limited, there is no need to take
this factor into account. In the opinion of your Committee the demand
for such power is likely to be very limited indeed, inasmuch as there
are but a very few manufactories in the parish, the district being a
residential one pure and simple. In deciding upon a system of supply
for this Parish, the following points must be specially borne in mind:—
1. That the district covers an area of 3,107 acres.
2. That the main arteries of the Parish are of great length,
measuring as they do as follows:—
M. Yds.
High Street and Upper Street (from " Angel"
to "Cock Tavern") 1 40
Holloway Road (from "Cock Tavern" to
"Archway Tavern") 1 1,727
Caledonian Road (from King's Cross to Hollo-
way Road) 1 1,460
Essex Road (from Upper Street to Balls Pond
Road) 1 107
St. Paul's Road and Balls Pond Road (from
'Cock Tavern " to Parish Boundary) 1 370
Seven Sisters Road (from Nag's Head to
Parish Boundary) 0 1,587
3. That although the compulsory area included in the
order is somewhat limited the demand for the current will in all
probability be ultimately scattered in various parts of the Parish,
and that therefore a system should be adopted which would prove
best suited, not merely for the compulsory area, but for the
Pariah as a whole.
