and 9 feet long. The total cost of the cable, including pipe, street
work, &c., is, roughly speaking, £2,000 per mile. The sum of
£70,000 has been expended in plant, mains, &c., at this station, but
this sum does not include the cost of the building or the site. A
well has been bored to the depth of 451 feet for supplying water
to the boilers, and pumps are now being fixed. This will effect a
considerable saying in the water bill.
The Committee was indebted to Mr. Walton, the Chief Assistant Engineer,
for the trouble which he took in conducting the members over the
works, and for giving them full particulars and information relating
to the installation.
From the return before alluded to, this Company, on the 1st November,
1892, had a paid-up capital of £500,000. At the end of 1891 the
total expenditure on capital account amounted to £486,926. The
revenue for that year was £43,747, against an expenditure of
£34,028, a profit during the year of £9,719. A dividend of 2 per
cent, was paid for the year, the £10 shares being now quoted at

of Trade unit, less discount.
City of London Electric Suvply Company, Bankside,
On the 13th of December, your Sub-Committee visited this important
Station at Bankside, Southwark. This Company has been formed
for the purpose of supplying electricity in the City of London, and
the station now in coarse of construction at Bankside will undoubtedly
be one of the finest in existence. The site comprises a very large
area in Bankside, with a riverside frontage from which coal is
obtained direct from barges. Your Sub-Committee was very
courteously received by the Secretary of the Company (Mr. J. C.
Bull), and Mr. Emile Garcke, a Director of the Company, who
tendered to the members all the information in their power regarding
the undertaking. This Company at the present time is supplying
current in the central and western parts of the City, and at the
time of your Sub-Committee's visit had about 15,000 8 c.p. lamps
installed, in addition to street lighting.
