from expressing its own views as to the relative advantages of a high
or low tension system for the Parish until it had been able to investigate
by personal inquiries and inspections the various systems
of electric lighting in use, and to obtain precise and reliable information
as to the working and commercial success of the principal stations
which have up to the present time been installed.
The preliminary report of your Committee, therefore, merely
advocated the application by the Vestry for a provisional order so that
the Vestry could retain in its own hands the right to supply electricity
to the Parish, should it be deemed advisable to undertake such a
supply.
VESTRY'S PROVISIONAL ORDER.
The draft provisional order, which is based on the model form
issued by the Board of Trade, is now before that Board, and when
granted it is expected will be confirmed by Parliament early in the
coming Summer.
The area of supply for which the Vestry seeks powers is the whole
of the Parish. Your Committee found it necessary to schedule certain
streets in the order as those throughout which the undertakers are
required to lay mains within two years after the commencement of
the order, and it accordingly selected High Street, Upper Street,
Holloway Road (from Upper Street to Seven Sisters Road), and Seven
Sisters Road (from Holloway Road to Hornsey Road) as most suitable
for the commencement of operations. It should be understood that it
will be open to the Vestry to lay down mains in as many streets as it
chooses after the order has been granted, but the streets above named
are all which the Vestry will be required to lay distributing mains in
within a period of two years, should the order be granted in the form
deposited. The draft order proposes to authorise the Vestry to charge
7d. per unit as a maximum charge for the current supplied.
Objections were lodged to the order by the undermentioned
parties:—
The Holloway Electricity Supply Company, Limited
(Messrs. Sharpe & Kent).
