The Committee cannot conclude this report without referring to a
matter of considerable importance to Islington, which was touched
upon in the report presented in 1891. It was there pointed out that in
consequence of the action taken by this Parish and as the result of a
conference held in 1890, the London County Council were taking
action (by appeals against the totals) to compel certain parishes to
contribute upon a fair basis to common Metropolitan charges.
Unfortunately, owing to the law's delay, but a few of these
appeals, and those not the most important ones, have yet been settled.
These settlements are the results of compromises effected in Court, and
the results are shewn in Table "C."
The amounts claimed by the London County Council in appeals
still pending are also shewn in this Table, and whether these appeals
are ever decided or not, the Assessment Committee of Islington cannot
but feel that the result has justified the action taken by the London
County Council.
WM. ADAMS,
Chairman.
