SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT
OF THE
ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE OF THE PARISH OF ST. MARY,
ISLINGTON.
The Assessment Committee of the Parish of St. Mary, Islington,
pursuant to the promise contained in its report, dated June 19th, 1891,
now submits a supplemental report of the proceedings of the Committee
in connection with the appeals resulting from the Quinquennial Assessment
of 1890-91.
It will be remembered that the following appeals to Quarter Sessions
were outstanding at the time the last report was submitted, viz.:—that
of the Gas Light and Coke Co., that of the Agricultural Hall Co., and that
of the Midland Railway Co. in respect of the portion of the Tottenham
and Hampstead Railway in the Parish of Islington.
The first-named appeal has only been settled, at all events so far as
regards the taxation of costs, within the last few days, and to this fact
must be attributed the long delay which has taken place in completing
the Committee's report of its proceedings during the Quinquennial year.
The appeals of the Agricultural Hall Co. and of the Midland
Railway Co. were both compromised in Court in the course of the year
1891—the former by the Committee agreeing to a reduction of £175 in
the gross and £563 in the rateable value of the Agricultural Hall, each
party paying its own costs—the latter by the Committee agreeing to a
reduction of £400 in the rateable value only of the Tottenham and
Hampstead Railway, each party again paying its own costs.
With regard to the appeal of the Gas Light and Coke Co., to which
reference has been made, the result has long been matter of common
knowledge, and it is not deemed now necessary to more than briefly
