SANITARY INSPECTORS.
Oil the retirement of Inspector Leverton, who had been appointed to
Bromley, Kent, the Vestry elected a successor, who, however, only held
the position for a brief period, under a month, at the end of which time
he was reported to the Committee for having absented himself from
duty on June 22nd, and for having sent a telegram in which he stated
he had met with an accident, whereas he was seen by the Superintendent
in good health on the same day. The Committee therefore recommended
the Vestry to dismiss him.
Another member of the staff was also dismissed for periodical
absences through illness arising from intemperate habits.
Mr. William Walter Ward was appointed a Temporary Sanitary
Inspector on September 3rd, at a salary of 35s. 0d. per week.
Salaries of Sanitary Inspectors. This matter came before the Committee
on several occasions, and finally the following resolution was
arrived at:—
"That the commencing salary of the Sanitary Inspectors
"hereafter appointed be £2 per week, rising by four annual
"increments to £2 10s. 0d. per week, and that those Inspectors
"who have reached the present maximum salary of £2 5s. 0d. per
"week be increased to £2 10s. 0d. by two annual increments of
"2s. 6d.; and those Inspectors whose salary is below £2 0s. 0d. be
"increased to that amount, and such alteration do take effect from
"the 1st January next."
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
ALFRED E. HARRIS,
Medical Officer of Health.
