THE "SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACTS " FOR THE
YEAR 1889.
During the twelve months ending December, 1889, 770 samples of
food were submitted by your Inspectors, and examined by the Public
Analyst, Dr. Teed, no samples having been sent to him by the Public.
The 770 samples submitted by your Inspectors consisted of:—

9 Sugar 9 Port Wine 9 Sherry
9 Jam 11 Mustard 9 Oatmeal
10 Cocoa 9 Cheese 8 Cayenne Pepper
9 Lard 9 Whisky 10 Flour
9 Bitter Ale 11 Sweets 9 Lime Juice
9 Rum 9 Coffee 9 Brandy
9 Vinegar 9 Chicory 98 Butter
9 Black Tea 9 Bread 5 Quinine
9 Honey 30 White Pepper 2 Sulphate of Quinine
9 Gin 9 Green Tea 2 Precip. Sulphur
20 Black Pepper 352 Milk 5 Milk of Sulphur
8 Porter
Of the 770 samples submitted for examination by your Inspectors,
51 samples of Milk, 5 of Pepper, 3 of Butter, and 1 sample each of
Whisky, Cocoa, Mustard, Lime Juice, Milk of Sulphur, and Precipitated
Sulphur, were certified to be adulterated or to contain injurious
admixture and the Vendors were prosecuted accordingly.
The result of the summonses will be found elsewhere, but beyond
these 65 samples the Analyst had no occasion to find fault with the
quality of the articles submitted for analysis.
For the information of the Vestry, the Reports of the Analyst,
Dr. Teed, together with their accompanying Schedules, are attached
hereto.
