THE DUSTING OF THE PAKISH, 1889.90.
I have appended, as usual, a tabulated statement (Table No. VIII.)
of the applications for the removal of Dust during the year ending
Lady.day, 1890, showing the number received during each quarter
from the eight different Wards of the Parish.
Of the total number of 7,891 applications received from residents,
during the year, 5,846 were by Letter or Postal Card, and 2,045
were made personally, or by messages sent to the Vestry Offices.
The 7,891 applications received from inhabitants were at the rate
of 18.6 per cent, of the 42,317 assessments in the Parish, as against
12.1 per cent, in 1888.
The applications were therefore rather above those of last years
although the present number is still much below the records of previous
years.
CONCLUSION.
Although not occuring within the year to which this Eeport
specially relates, I cannot conclude without mention of the sad loss
your Sanitary Department has sustained by the recent death of Henry
Isaac Collingwood. He was in very truth, a loyal colleague, and an
efficient officer. Kindhearted and courteous, he was at the same time
fearless and determined. He knew nothing of personal interest, hip
interest was centered in those for whom and with whom he worked.
His clear.headedness made him brave when bravery was needed, his
kind hearted disposition gave him an almost womanly sympathy. His
colleagues have lost a friend, and the Vestry an able and honest officer.
I remain, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
C. MEYMOTT TIDY, M.B.
30th June, 1890.
