Great Northern Railway (Further Powers) Bill.
In December, 1889, the Great Northern Railway Company
deposited plans for extending their railway between Caledonian Road
and Hollow ay Road, which plans showed that the Company proposed
to acquire houses in Caledonian Road and adjacent streets and to
stop up Stock Orchard Street. Shortly afterwards memorials
were received from residents in the neighbourhood of the proposed
alteration asking the Vestry to oppose the Bill in Parliament.
It appeared from the provisions of the Bill that it was proposed to
acquire rateable property of a gross value of £1,530, with a view to
formiDg a siding in the neighbourhood of the bridge by which the
Caledonian Road passes over the railway, while other property facing
the road was to be left practically isolated without compensation, and
the Vestry ultimately resolved to lodge a petition against the Bill.
