A.
Extract from the Minutes of an Extraordinary Meeting
of the Vestry, convened on Friday, the 18th January, 1880,
under Sec. 5 of the "Public Baths and Wash-houses Act" to
determine as to the adoption of the same in this Parish:—
"The Vestry Clerk also read a Report from the General Purposes
"Committee, stating that it had considered the letter from the Coroner
"referred by the Vestry on the 20th July, 1888, in which attention
"was called to the absence of Public Baths and Wash-houses in the
"Parish, pointing out the respective Acts of Parliament which
"authorised the establishment of Public Baths and Wash-houses,
"and intimating that the Committee had come to the conclusion that
"Baths and Wash-houses were much needed in Islington, and that it
"was desirable that the Ratepayers should take the initiatory steps to
"enable the Vestry to put the Public Baths and Wash-houses Acts
"in force.
"Whereupon Mr. Mote moved, and Mr. Price seconded—
"That the Report be received, and that it be referred to a
"Special Committee, consisting of the Chairmen of the Permanent
"Committees and two members from each Ward to consider and report
"to the Vestry generally upon the whole question, and as to the best
"site or sites for erecting Baths and Wash-houses in this Parish, and as
"to the probable cost of sites, buildings and plant.
"Carried.''
