Copy Report of the Accounts Committee, with reference to
the Churchwardens' expenditure (ordered to he printed,
21st JANUARY, 1890.)
TO THE VESTRY OF ST. MARY, ISLINGTON.
Your Accounts Committee begs to draw attention to the annexed
Resolutions, passed by the Vestry on the 30th October, 1874, with
reference to the Churchwardens' expenditure.
Your Committee is of opinion that there are some items of expenditure
in the previous Churchwardens' Accounts, and also certain
expenditure comtemplated by the present Senior Churchwarden, or by
him and his colleagues, as to the legality of which there are grave
doubts, and that until such doubts are cleared up by counsel's opinion
of a satisfactory character, the resolutions annexed ought not to continue
in force.
Your Committee accordingly recommends that such resolutions,
and also the resolution passed by the Vestry on the 3rd instant, authorising
the Senior Churchwarden to invite tenders for taking down the
wall surrounding the Chapel of Ease grounds and erecting new iron
railings in lieu thereof, and carrying out such other works in connection
therewith as may be necessary, at an estimated cost of £580, be
rescinded.
Your Committee has directed the Vestry Clerk, pursuant to By-Law
No. 2, to convene a Special Meeting of the Vestry for Friday evening,
the 7th February, 1890, to consider this Report.
All which is submitted.
(Signed) JOHN YOUNG-,
January 21st, 1890. Chairman.
