£17,502 and £14,600 respectively.

gross and £1,660,613 rateable.

have been entered into with owners for the payment of rates
upon commission pursuant to the " Poor Rate Assessment and Collection

QUINQUENNIAL RE-YALUATION.
The imminence of the fifth Quinquennial Yaluation of the
Metropolis, pursuant to the provisions of the Yaluation of Property
(Metropolis) Act, 1869, induced the Board of Assessors in January,
1890, to bring up a report upon the subject, in which, dealing with
the question of the assessment of the public Companies, it was intimated
that the Board had under consideration the desirability of recommending
the Vestry to place the valuation of such Companies in the
hands of professional valuers as is done in other metropolitan parishes.
The suggestion not finding favor with the Yestry the matter was
referred back to the Board, which subsequently reported that, with the
assistance of the Vestry Clerk and Accountant, it w7ould undertake the
work as usual.
A further suggestion of the Board, which was adopted by the
Yestry, was to the effect that the London County Council be urged to
exercise its powers under the Yaluation Act to ensure that the total
gross and rateable values of each parish in the Metropolis are fixed with
a due regard to the requirements of the Yaluation Act, and to the
common interests of the other parishes. A communication to that effect
was accordingly addressed to the London County Council.
RATES.
There has been a further, and indeed an augmented, increase in
the rates, which amounted during the past year to 4s. 8d. in the £, a
higher rate than, with two exceptions (in 1870 and 1871), has been
known in the parish since the present Vestry was constituted in 1856.
