MUSTARD.
The adulteration of a sample of mustard with wheat-starch
was apparently accidental as only some 3 per cent. of that
starch could be found.
SALAD OIL.
The sample of adulterated salad oil, to which reference has
been made in a previous report, consisted practically of mineral
oil. It is necessary, however, to again call attention to the fact
that such an article is being sold, as its use may be attended
with considerable danger.
MARGARINE.
Since the beginning of the present year it has been unlawful
to sell margarine containing more than 10 per cent. of butter
fat. The four samples examined during the quarter affected by
this new Act of Parliament were found to be well within the
limit.
COCOA, CHEESE, &c.
The remaining samples were all certified to be "not adulterated."
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
J. KEAR COLWELL.
