Council, which was calculated to nullify the Vestry's
resolution on the subject, and declined to entertain it.
The Vestry also received from the County Council
a letter inviting suggestions for junctions or
extensions of tramway lines to be applied for in the
session of 1899. The Yestry suggested that the
Council be requested to seek powers to construct a
double line of tramways in Goswell Road, in conjunction
with a scheme for widening the narrow
portion of that thoroughfare.
The Vestry also received a letter from the
Engineer of the North Metropolitan Tramways
Company, enclosing tracings showing proposed
junctions of tram lines in Farringdon Road and
Clerkenwell Road, which proposes to connect the
present Farringdon Road terminus with the Clerkenwell
Road lines eastward, to which the Vestry
gave their consent.
Removal of Dust.—In consequence of the complaints
received from the inhabitants of nonattention
on the part of the dustmen, and the
requirements of the London County Council Byelaws
that dust should be removed from the premises
in the Parish at least once a week, the Works
Committee gave the matter their consideration,
and directed the Wharf Superintendent to make a
Report upon the practicability of a weekly houseto-house
collection, which was duly presented, and
advised that a sixth gang of men, with two horses
and vans, be employed, and that each gang in
future consist of four men instead of three as at
present. This report was adopted by the Committee
and presented to the Vestry, and finally,
after many amendments, all of which were lost, the
Vestry gave the Committee the power sought for.
