"That Copies of the foregoing Resolutions be forwarded
to the Treasury, the Corporation of London, the London
County Council, and the Vestries and Local Boards of the
Metropolis."
Houses let in Lodgings.—The Vestry have considered
the desirability of altering the Bye-law
relating to the air space of rooms occupied by day
and by night so as to bring Clerkenwell into conformity
with the rest of the Metropolis, and it is
now accordingly amended as follows:—
The landlord of a lodging-house or a lodger therein shall
not knowingly cause or suffer a greater number of persons than
will admit of the provision of four hundred cubic feet of free air
space for each person of an age exceeding twelve years, and
of two hundred cubic feet of free air space for each person of
an age not exceeding twelve years, to occupy, at any one time,
as a sleeping apartment, a room which is not used exclusively
for that purpose, and which is under the control of such landlord,
or which has been let to such lodger respectively, as the
case may be.
The Bye-law under which the Vestry acted
previously specified 350 and 175 cubic feet
respectively.
Transfer of Powers of Library Commissioners.—
The Vestry have passed a resolution that application
be made to the Local Government Board, under
Section 33 of the Local Government Act, 1894, to
transfer to the Yestry the powers, duties, and
liabilities of the Public Library Commissioners.
Want of addititional Police.—The Vestry have
addressed the Home Secretary upon the subject of
cases of riotous conduct in Clerkenwell, asking for
additional police protection, and have received his
reply stating that as in all cases the arrest of the
parties inflicting the injury has been quickly
effected, he sees no sufficient grounds for
strengthening the force of the policc employed.
