Vestry are taking steps to endeavour to get such
inconvenience obviated in future. The Vestry decided
to concur and to co-operate with the Vestry
of Chelsea in the matter.
Infectious Disease -Shelters.—In August letters
were received from the Whitechapel District
Board of Works and the Guardians of the Wandsworth
and Clapham Union, in favour of representations
being made to the Local Government
Board that all shelters, including Salvation Army
shelters, should be brought under the provisions
of the Common Lodging House Acts as a protection
against the spread of contagions and infectious
disease. The Vestry concurred with the views
expressed in such communications, and so informed
the Local Government Board, the County Council,
and the Metropolitan Asylums Board.
Tho Vestry have also received a letter from the
Vestry of St. George-the-Martyr, Southwark, forwarding
a copy of a report by their Medical Officer
of Health on the overcrowding at their Shelter in
Blackfriars Road. The report emphasises the
necessity for an alteration of the law so as to give
the Sanitary Authority a right of entry at night for
tho purpose of inspection, and for bringing such
places and other night refuges of a similar nature
within the control of the Common Lodging House
Acts.
Insufficient Hospital Accommodation.—In November
a letter was received from the Vestry of
St. Marylebone, inviting tho appointment of three
Delegates to a Conference on Tuesday, December
3rd, to consider the question of the inability of the
Metropolitan Asylums Board to provide sufficient
accommodation for the infectious sick. The Vestry
