1887 to be exempt from rating, and that the Vestry
then applied both to the Justices and to the
Treasury for a contribution in lieu of rates. The
Justices replied that they had no power to make
such a grant, and the Treasury that the premises
were not Government property. The Vestry
have now applied to the County Council, but have
received a reply that it has no power to make the
grant asked for. The Vestry have therefore requested
the Council to seek powers in their next
General Powers Bill to make such a contribution.

School Board Precepts—The following is a list of the Precepts of the School Board, on the Parish of Clerkenwell, since it was called into existence by the Elementary Education Act, 1870 :
