need of more Infectious Hospitals for the Metropolis,
and the difficulty experienced in providing suitable
sites for such Hospitals, owing to the local opposition
which arises; and intimating that as their
accommodation for fever patients may shortly
become exhausted, the Vestry may be called upon
to make provision for their own infectious sick.
The Vestry, in reply, urged the Metropolitan
Asylums Board to provide the necessary accommodation
as soon as possible.
The Vestry of St. Marylebone invited the
appointment of two delegates to a conference on
Wednesday, 28th June, with the object of forming
a deputation to wait upon the Local Government
Board, to urge them to facilitate the acquisition
of sites by the Metropolitan Asylums Board, or
the provision of suitable buildings. The Vestry
appointed Mr. Putterill and Mr. Dixie as such
delegates. The conference passed a resolution, as
follows:—
That in view of the urgent necessity cf further provision
being made for the rapidly increasing number of persons suffering
from infectious disease, and the declared inability of the Metropolitan
Asylums Board to provide the necessary accommodation,
this Conference do appoint a deputation to wait upon the Local
Government Board for the purpose of urging them to facilitate
the acquisition of sites by the Metropolitan Asylums Board, or
the provision of suitable buildings.
The Local Government Board has since
sanctioned the erection of two more hospitals.
In consequence of the want of accommodation,
many infectious cases in the Parish were unable to
be removed to hospital.
