In regard to Aylesbury Place, although the entrance is very
objectionable, being through a narrow passage under a house, still
the Court itself is fairly open and the houses have back yards,
with separate water closets; so I do not propose to condemn them
at present.
I have, &c.,
J. W. GRIFFITH, M.D.,
Medical Officer of Health.
Having carefully considered the subject, the
Yestry informed the Council that they were not
prepared to frame schemes for the improvement of
the areas suggested under Part 2 of the Act.
Bakehouses.—The Bakehouses in the Parish are
inspected twice yearly by the Medical Officer of
Health. After the inspection in July, 1893, the
acting Medical Officer, Dr. Hockridge, reported as
follows:—
With regard to the Bakehouses of the Parish, I found them
on the whole very clean; most of them commendably so; but in
nearly all the ventilation was very defective, and I am of the
opinion that with the present structural arrangements of the
premises, very little improvement may be looked for in this
direction, or at any rate until the politician comes to the aid of
the sanitarian.
The matter was referred to the Public Health
Committee, who reported that in the existing state
of the law the Yestry were not in a position to
enforce any remedy.
Sadler's Wells Theatre.—Notice was again
received from Messrs. Wilmot and Freeman of
their intention to apply for a music and dancing
license for Sadler's Wells Theatre. The Yestry
informed them that they would oppose the application,
and communicated with the County Council
accordingly. The application was again refused.
