On the 22nd February the drawings, specifications,
&c., being prepared, the Vestry decided to
invite tenders from ten firms of repute, and on the
8th March the tenders were received and opened,
the lowest, that of Messrs C. Dearing & Son, of
Halliford Street, Islington, being accepted; the
sum being £14,724 13s. Od. The work was duly
commenced on the 19th March, in accordance with
the contract.

Summary Proceedings.—During the year summonses have been issued at the instance of the Vestry, and heard by the Magistrate at the Clerkenwell Police Court in respect of the following offences:—

*One of these cases was heard at the Mansion Honse, and dismissed on
the ground that the Vendor did not know that the articles were bad when
he sold them. Of the penalties and costs (£46 11s.) only £11 11s. was
recovered. In one case the defendant was fined £35 or one month's imprisonment,
and ha went to prison.
