Playgrounds of School Board Schools.—
In June, 1892, the Vestry received a letter from the
Vestry of St. Saviour's, Southwark, in favour of the
playgrounds of School Board Schools being open
daily after school hours, and on Saturdays and
Sundays from 10 a.m. till dusk. The Vestry agreed
with such views, except in cases where schools are
used on Sundays for purposes of instruction.. In
consequence of the action taken by the local
authorities, the School Board agreed to open such
playgrounds as are needed on Sundays, owing to
the want of open spaces, and where the opening
will not disturb any Sunday tenancy, provided that
means are taken to secure the rest of the school
keeper, and that they have referred it to the
divisional members to recommend suitable cases.
Clerkenwell Detached.—At the close of last year
the Local Government Board had intimated their
intention to hold an enquiry under the Divided
Parishes Acts, on suggestions made by certain
inhabitants of Clerkenwell detached and Hornsey
that such detached portion should be added to the
Parish of Hornsey. The Vestry continued to
receive complaints of the want of drainage, and
urged the County Council to come to a settlement
of the question, but they deferred further action
pending the Enquiry. The Enquiry was held on
the 25th and 26th October, by two of the Inspectors
of the Local Government Board, Mr. Robert Hedley
and Mr. E. P. Burd. The authorities represented
on the occasion were the Vestry of Clerkenwell, the
Hornsey Local Board, the Overseers of Hornsey,
the Edmonton Board of Guardians, the Eriern
Barnet Local Board, the Wood Green Local Board,
the Middlesex County Council and the London
County Council. Mr. B. 0. B. Lane, Q.C.,
