In regard to Erysipelas, I may well repeat what was stated
in my last Report, viz.: "No second case occurred in any house.
In fact this disease is not infectious in the same manner as the other
infectious diseases are, and it might well be excluded from the list."
Inspectors' Reports.—The ever-increasing work of our
intelligent and active inspectors is given below: —
Wards 1, 2 and 3, Inspector Bartlett's District.
293 drains remedied, 92 of which were reconstructed—total length
being 975 feet.
153 gully traps provided in lieu of bell traps.
110 water supplies to w.c.'s reinstated.
97 new pans provided, or old pans cleaned, to w.c.'s..
207 houses and rooms cleansed.
56 cases of overcrowding abated.
98 dustbins provided or repaired.
34 roofs repaired.
24 smoke nuisances abated.
10 dead bodies removed to mortuary from rooms.
6 urinals cleansed and provided with water.
15 nuisances from keeping animals abated.
3 houses closed unfit for human habitation.
3 cesspools emptied.
42 accumulations of dung, rubbish, &c., removed.
118 cases of defective water fittings, including 47 water supplies
cut off, reinstated.
5 percolations of water.
45 illegally occupied kitchens emptied or made to comply with the
Act.
119 defective pavings.
361 cases of infectious disease, consisting of 1 small pox, 200 scarlet
fever, 55 diphtheria and membranous croup, 26 typhoid, I
puerperal fever, 78 erysipelas. Of these 160 were removed
to hospitals.
