The amount received from the various Companies
for the repair of trenches during the year was
£743 11s. 8d.
Owing to the severity of the past winter the
masons and paviors were unable to execute any
repairs to the pavements of the Parish on (including
wet days during the year) 36 days.
On these days the masons were employed in
cutting up York edging and dressing kerb, and the
paviors in dressing granite cubes, except when
assisting to clear away the snow.
Stalls in Stables at Wharf.—The paving in
stalls of stables at Phoenix Wharf was relaid by
the Vestry's workmen.
Snow Storms.—There were several snow storms
during the winter, the principal occurring on
February 13th, 15th, 19th, 24th, March 1st, 20th,
and 21st, the heaviest being on the two latter
dates. No snow was stacked upon the open
spaces. Owing to the falls occurring somewhat
late in the season the cost of removing was not so
great as it otherwise would have been. The total
cost beyond the ordinary wages was about £60.
Trees.—Twenty new trees were planted in the
Parish to replace a similar number which had died.
LIGHTING.
The following additions and alterations to the
public lamps have been made during the year.
