had received no complaints in respect to it. The
Yestry thereupon again protested against the
appointment of the Cab Stand, and sent a copy of
the memorial of the inhabitants to him, and also
pointed out that the absence of necessity of the
stand is demonstrated by the fact that it had
hardly been used by cabs since its appointment.
Further correspondence ensued, but the Commissioner
could not be induced to alter his
decision. A letter was received from the Yestry
of St. Marylebone, calling attention to the same
subject, and urging that, unless very careful selection
is given to the sites, depreciation must
necessarily be caused to valuable property. The
Yestry agreed with that expression of opinion, and
informed the Yestry of Marylebone that similar
proceedings were taking place in this parish.
Chalet, Clerkenwell Koad.—An offer was made
to the Yestry in December by the Chalet Company,
asking if the Yestry would be disposed to purchase
the Chalet erected at the corner of Clerkenwell
Road and Goswell Road, stating that it had
cost over .£800, but they would be willing to take
less. The Yestry however did not entertain the
proposal.
Cumming Street. — In February, 1888, the
Yestry of Islington forwarded plans aud sections of
a proposed improvement, by pulling down the
wall at present separating Cumming Street Nortli
Irom Cumming Street South, and by altering the
levels, and making those of the two streets coincide,
to which alteration they had obtained the consent
of Captain Penton, the freeholder. After considering
the subject, the Yestry agreed to the proposal,
which will, when complete, effect a desirable public
improvement.
