case, if it could have been so amended as th become a
workable measure. The fact of its having been withdrawn
leaves things to on-so far an Local SelfGovernment
is concerned in exactly the same position
us before the Bill was proposed. May I now appeal to
the Vestry, and say that, whatever mistakes have been
made, there is yet time to retrieve. Let bygones be
bygones; let the jealousies cease; and, forgetting all
personal ill feeling, endeavour to cultivate a desire to
do the very best for the Parish. The past few
months in this place have boon the most irksome of my
life, from the fact of the amenities that have existed;
and a gentleman said to me the other day that if he had
£100 placed in his hands he would not come forward

attacked.

you. I ask you to consider it, and carry it heartily.
And I also ask you to consider the words of my appeal,
in order that in the future the work may be done more
harmoniously and more efficiently than it has been in the
past.
The Chairman then put the resolution, which was
carried, there appearing 27 for, and 4 against it.
