The Courts and Alleys are regularly inspected at least twice
a-week, to see that no nuisances exist, and that the dust bins are
regularly emptied. In the warn weather the footways and closets
are flushed with disinfectants (carbolic acid) .
When epidemic fever is prevailing, or when death has been known to
occnr from this the premises are inspected and cleansed; and particular
care is taken that no family removes from an apartment where there has
been infectious disease, until the clothes, &c., have been fumigated;
and no tenement is re-let until it has been fumigated, limewhited,
and thoroughly cleansed.
A Mortuary has been provided to hold the bodies of those found
dead, or of those whose families occupy but a single room in
which also post-mortems are conducted. The bodies of those dying in
the work-house are at once conveyed here, and left until the time
of burial.
Fever Conveyance. A Carriage is kept, and solely used
to convey those suffering from Small Pox or Fever, to the respective
Hospitals.
Analyst of Pood. The Medical-Officer of Health was appointed
Analyst of Food. But as there was no fund to pay the expenses
and the risk of costs on appeal was great, the appointment was
not re-made. Nor did the public take advantage of the proposed
benefits.
Complaints. Complaints may be, and very frequently are
entered in a book. These are at once attended to and the necessary
orders made for the removal of the nuisances which gave rise to them.
Cow-houses, &C. The Cow-houses, Slaughter-houses, and the.
Bake-houses, are regularly inspected prior to the licensing (of the
2 former), and all necessary improvements are ordered and carried out.
Burials. All burials have long ceased in the Parish, and all
coffins in the vaults have been buried with disinfectants, and all
communication between them and the interior of the Church has been
prevented.
