SURVEYOR'S REPORT.
TO THE VESTRY OF THE PARISH OP ST. JAMES AND
ST. JOHN, CLERKENWELL.
Gentlemen,
I beg respectfully to submit the following Report for the
year ending Lady-day, 1871.
SEWAGE AND SANITARY WORKS.
During this period 8 sewers have been repaired and 32 cleansed;
2 new gullies have been constructed, 10 trapped, 19 repaired, and
173 cleansed; 60 house drains have been laid down, comprising 1
12-inch, 13 9-inch, and 45 6-inch; while 71 houses have been
drained and 3 house drains were trapped.
5 cesspools have been destroyed and water closets substituted
for them.
101 loads of soil have been taken out and removed from the
sewers and gullies.
One urinal has been removed from the East end of Wilderness
Row and refixed at the East End of Upper Charles Street.
