SHOPS. ACT, 1950.
One hundred and ninety-two visits were made in the
administration of this Act, and seven infringements corrected.
"Shop" for the purposes of this Act is a very
comprehensive term and includes any premises where any
retail trade or business is carried on.
The number of such premises in the Borough at the end of 1956, was:—

THE HEATING APPLIANCES (FIREGUARDS) ACT,1952.
This Act which prohibits the sale or letting of certain
heating appliances without an effective fireguard, together
with Regulations made by the Secretary of State, became
operative during 1954.
Seventeen visits were made to premises in the Borough
and two warnings were given where such appliances were not
satisfactory. The offending appliances v/ere withdrawn from
sale.
PET ANIMALS ACT, 1951.
This Act is designed "to regulate the sale of pet
animals".
Six premises were licensed during the year. Twenty-three
inspections were made but no infringements of the licence
conditions found.
