The Analyst's reports and details of action taken on contravening samples were as follows:—

1711 (informal) Sausage - porkContained only 51% meat instead of a minimum of 65%. Warning letter sent.
1712 (informal) Sausages, Chipolata pork.It was a sample of preserved pork sausages containing 290 p.p.m. of sulphur dioxide.
It was subsequently found that the label attached to these sausages had been inadvertently-damaged.
1721 (informal) Cake Mix, ChocolateLabelling liable to mislead and ingredients not specified in a conspicuous and prominent position.
Manufacturers informed that Committee considered label misleading and they agreed to slightly amend wording.
1723 (informal) Iron & Yeast Tablets.85% deficient in ascorbic acid (vitamin C) compared with the statement on the label.

1726 (informal) Steak and Kidney PuddingThe article contained no kidney. Formal sample taken which was genuine.
1728 (informal) Cake mixThis article contained the ingredients foi making the basic cake, with the addition of one egg, but no ingredients for icing or filling, whereas the carton in which the article was sold bore a large picture on the front panel of a cake complete with icing and filling.
Correspondence ensued and manufacturers interviewed but no satisfactory conclusion reached.
1729 (informal) Cake mixThis article contained the ingredients for making the basic cake, but contained no ingredients for icing or filling, whereas the carton in which the article was sold bore on the front panel a large picture of a cake complete with icing and filling.
Matter taken up with manufacturers who introduced a new package which though an improvement on the original was felt to be not entirely satisfactory.
