1615 (formal)
Soup - Cream of mushroom,
dried.
The proportion of fat in the soup
prepared according to the directions
would amount to only 0.5% whereas
cream soups of ordinary commercial
quality intended for direct use
without dilution contain not less
than 3½% of fat. The dried soup
as received contained 6.6% of fat.
The retailer stated that he would
rely on a warranty. Enquiries
about the manufacturers revealed
that they had left their registered
office and they stated they were in
liquidation but this was not
confirmed by the Registrar of
Companies. Meanwhile proceedings
were brought by another local
authority who secured a conviction
against the manufacturers in
respect of this article. The
Council therefore decided to deal
with this sample by way of warning
letters to retailer and manufacturer
with the suggestion that arrangements
might be made to withdraw this soup
from sale.
