INFANT MORTALITY.
There were 18 deaths of children under one year of age.
Two were illegitimate.
The causes and ages at death were as follows:-
Intraperitoneal hæmorrhage Newly born
Tentorial tear 10 minutes.
Hydrops fætalis 15 minutes
Tentorial tear 15 minutes
Prematurity 15 hours
Pulmonary atelectasis 1 day
Gross Prematurity 1 day
Atelectasis 1 day
Intracranial hæmorrhage 2 days
Spina Bifida 2 days
Erythroblastosis 2 days
Volvulus of small intestine 3 days
Congenital atelectasis 3 days
Gastro enteritis 3 weeks
Congenital heart disease 3 weeks
Acute bronchitis 4 months
Broncho pneumonia 8 months
Congenital stenosis of common bile duct 11 months
Of the infant deaths 12 occurred in hospitals or public
institutions outside the district of Surbiton.
