Action taken on non-genuine samples was as follows:-

408 (Informal)Powdered Gelatine. %This sample contained zinc 700 parts per million. There is no legal standard limiting the zinc content, but the Public Analyst considered this amount excessive. Efforts to trace the manufacturers with a view to further action were unsuccessful.
432 (informal)Malt Vinegar.Addition of salt, which is not a natural or normal ingredient of vinegar. It was not clear that an offence had been committed, and no further action was taken.
437 (Informal) 439 (informal)Meat Soup.Pound to be deficient in solids. Referred to Ministry of Pood for action under the Meat Products, Canned Soup and Conned Meat (Control and Maximum Prices) Order, 1944. Formal sample was not taken as no further supplies of this soup could be found.
Celery Soup.Found to be deficient in solids. Was referred to Ministry of Pood for action under the Meat Products, Canned Soup and Canned Meat (Control and Maximum Prices) Order, 1944. A further sample taken by the Ministry's Enforcement Officer was found up to standard.
442.Milk.Contained one half of one per cent of added water (confirmed by HORTVET test). Warning given.
473Malt Vinegar.Addition of salt which is not a natural or normal ingredient of vinegar. It was not clear that an offence had been committed, and no further action was taken.
486,496 and 497.Mustards.Deficient in allyl insothiocyanate. No further action on legal advice
503 (Informal)Meat Soup.Deficient in protein. Warning letter sent to manufacturers.
504 (Informal)Soyacream.Incorrect labelling, contrary to provisions of the labelling of Pood (No. 2) Order, 1944' Warning letter sent to manufacturers who undertook to re-label stocks immediately.
508Pork Sausage Meat.Meat content deficient. Warning letter sent to vendor/manufacturer.
514 (Informa1)Cough Balsam.Deficient in chloroform. Warning letter sent to vendor who arranged for revised labels to be brought into use.
522.Milk.12 per cent of added water and 1 per cent fat deficiency. In view of previous difficulties which the dairyman had had with his wholesale suppliers, the matter was referred to the Surrey County Council in whose area the vendor s premises are situated.
