Action token on non-genuine samples was as follows:-
Nos. 295 and 317 - Cake fixture. Samples contained 35 and 30 parts
per million respectively compounds of fluorine. Town Clerk did not
advise legal proceedings but the matter was taken up with the Ministry
of Food as this, product was sold under licence.
No. 406 - Curry Powder. Informal sample contained 8% common salt which
was considered excessive. After discussion with the importers it was
decided not to proceed further.
DAIRIES, COWSHEDS AND MILKSHOPS.
There are now 43 persons registered in accordance with the Milk
and Dairies (Amendment) Act, 1922, as follows:-
Wholesale Traders or producers of milk 7
Retail Purveyors of milk residing in the district 28
Retail Purveyors residing outside the district but
retailing in the district 8
In consequence of the Rationalisation Scheme only 13 retailers
are now selling milk in the Borough, but the others have expressed a
wish not to he removed from the register.
Sight Dealers' licences to sell "Pasteurised" milk, 5 to sell
"Tuberculin Tested" milk, 2 supplementary licences to sell "Pasteurised"
milk and 2 to sell "Tuberculin Tested" milk were granted under the Milk
(Special Designations) Order, 1936.
Sixty samples of milk were taken for phosphatase test to ascertain
if pasteurisation had been properly carried out. All were found to be
satisfactory.
Twelve samples of ordinary milk were taken for bacteriological
examination including animal Inoculation test for tuberculosis.
In 2 cases the laboratory reports indicated the presence of
tuberculosis and representations were made to the Ministry of
Agriculture and Fisheries. Investigations by officers of that Ministry
disclosed the presence of two tubercular cows., which were removed from
the herds concerned and slaughtered.
DISINEECTION.
During the year disinfection was carried out at 16 civilian
premises in which the following diseases occurred:-
Scabies 2
Scarlet fever 5
Tuberculosis 7
Diphtheria 1
Pneumonia 1
In addition disinfection was carried out at military and civil
defence premises following these deseases:-
Scabies 5
Tuberculosis 2
Disinfection was also carried out at 41 premises after cases of
non-notifiable diseases the occupiers in each case paying the cost.
