Death rate of Infants under one year of age :—
All infants per 1,000 live births 27.78
Legitimate infants per 1,000 legitimate live

births 50.00
Deaths from Measles (all ages) 1
Deaths from Whooping Cough (all ages) —
Deaths from Diarrhoea (under 2 years of age) 2
The natural increment in the population for 1934
is 257.
Still Births.—The rate per 1,000 population is
0.55, which is below that for England and Wales
(Smaller Towns), namely 0.67.
The maternal mortality rate per 1,000 live births
is 6.53.
The maternal mortality rate per 1,000 total
births is 6.31.
From the above particular attention must be
called to the very low Infantile Mortality Rate and
its sub-divisions, legitimate and illegitimate.
It points out what good care is taken of the
mothers and babies in Surbiton and that any increase
in expenditure in this service is fully justified.
I feel appreciation should be extended to all connected
with the Infant Welfare Clinics.
There was one death due to Measles, and it is
to be hoped that in the future, when the extension
to the Tolworth Isolation Hospital is completed, institutional
treatment may be given to the more advanced
cases of Measles and Pertussis.
