ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
CHIEF SANITARY INSPECTOR.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Borough of Surbiton.
I have the honour to present the Annual Report
on the work of your Sanitary Inspectors for the
year 1938.
This report is compiled in accordance with the
directions contained in a Memorandum from the
Ministry of Health and as required by Article 27
(18) of the Sanitary Officers (Outside London)
Regulations, 1935.
COMPLAINTS.
(excluding Council Houses)
During the year 265 complaints were received
with respect to the following matters, viz.:—
Defective condition of house drains 51
Insanitary or dilapidated condition of houses and
premises 35
Vermin, insects, etc. 20
Dampness 8
Defective or insufficient closet accommodation 3
Defective sink waste pipes, etc. 5
Defective roofs 2
Water supply to dwelling houses disconnected 8
Smoke nuisances 18
Overcrowding 4
Houses infested with rats 20
Houses not provided with sufficient receptacles for
house refuse 9
Nuisances from animals improperly kept 3
