The number of adulterated samples appear to be
few, being slightly over 2 per cent.
GIPSY CARAVANS.
The nuisance from the locating of Gipsies with
their vans and tents on the vacant land in the neighbourhood
of Harlesden has been more persistent
than in former years, and consequently a greater
number of complaints from the residents in the
immediate vicinity have been received. The law in
respect to nuisances is the same for tents or vans
as for houses, but owing to their temporary location,
it would be better to make Bye-laws which
would aim in preventing nuisances rather than to
trust to Statutes, which only enable us to demand
their abatement. Section 9 of the Housing of the
Working Classes Act, 1885, empower a Sanitary
Authority to make Bye-laws for promoting cleanliness
and for the prevention of nuisances, etc., arising from
vans, tents, sheds.
