being 19 as compared with 16 in 1897. I am informed by the Engineer
that a considerable number of positions have been agreed with estate
owners for the erection of these shafts, and they will be put up at the
expense of the owners, when the buildings to which they are to be
affixed are erected.
The efficient ventilation of the sewers is manifestly of the greatest
importance, and it is satisfactory to note that every opportunity continues
to be taken to secure this end.
