Open Air Schools:βIn the late spring of the year the matter of
providing outdoor education was taken into consideration, and several
sites were viewed for the purpose. It appeared1 that the most suitable
location for the first venture of this kind was the Downhills Park.
There is ample space in the Recreation ground, and the Band Stand
offered a suitable shelter should the weather prove inclement. Before
preparations had been completed the season had too far advanced and
for the time the project had to be abandoned. The matter is still
prominent in the minds of your Committee, and the desirability of open
air schools is likely to constitute part of your scheme to be realised
in the near future. There are a sufficient number of scholars of different
ages, whose health is below par, who do not suffer from any definite
or recognisable malady, but who would greatly benefit by open air
instruction. It is hoped that the preliminary steps taken in 1919 will,
in 1920, be further advanced', and that one or more of the parks or
open spaces will have their bandstands adapted for school room purposes
