WEST GREEN WARD.
Belmont Road School.
The flooring of the halls of this school requires attention as the
wood blocks of which it is composed are splintering, causing frequent
accidents to children.
The Windows are in need of more frequent cleaning.
Lavatories.—These require more frequent attention throughout the
school. The floors of several W.C. compartments were soiled with
urine and should be flushed and swabbed out daily.
Downhills School.
Senior Boys' and Girls' Departments.
There is now insufficient lavatory accommodation owing to the
establishment of a Central School. Structure of school is satisfactory.
Junior Boys' Department.
Lighting.—The rooms which are divided to accommodate two
classes are dark and require roof lights. The windows in the classrooms
are too near the floor, and the sashes should be fixed so as to
prevent the lower sash being raised more than 6 inches.
Heating. The heating of this school has been greatly improved
by the installation of pipes of wider calibre than before and by the
exposure of pipes which were previously covered by boarding.
Doors have been provided in the corridors in order to exclude
draughts.
Lavatories.—The urinal is unsatisfactory and drains into the playground.
Junior Girls' Department.
Classrooms.- Room 10 is dark. The lighting of Rooms 9 and 15
has been improved by the lopping of trees growing close to the windows.
The outside wall adjacent to room 14 should be whitened.
Heating.—This has been greatly improved by the provision of new
pipes.
Cloakrooms.—No provision has been made for the drying of
clothes.
Lavatory accommodation.—There is only one entrance to the lavatories
