NOTES:—a. This number includes children suffering both from vermin amongst the
hair or nits in the hair. No cases are lost sight of until a complete remedy has
been effected, but at any precise date, e.g. 31st December, 1919. it would be impossible
to say with any degree of precision the number remedied, improved or
unchanged.
b. This number relates not merely to a dirty condition of the body, but to verminous
conditions also. No children suffering from verminous condition of the body
are permitted to return to school, and all cases are kept under observation until
a complete remedy has been effected.
c. Practically every case is cured.
d. Most of these children suffer from Otorrhœa. They have their ears tyringed
three times a week with a solution of perchloride of mercury, and peroxide of
hydrogen and spirit instilled. All who come under the treatment are improved,
but we are not prepared to say they are remedied until a very long period
indeed has elapsed, consequently, the numbers are put down as improved only.
e. 278 Cases of skin disease and 58 miscellaneous ailments are still under treatment
at Clinic.
f. Glasses were provided in 1,074 instances. In 176 cases the Ophthalmic Surgeon
did not consider that glasses were necessary.
