HOUSE REFUSE.
The system of daily collection of refuse continues to
work well as complaints are seldom received. At the
general inspection very few places were found where
there was an accumulation of refuse.
SEWAGE DISPOSAL WORKS.
The extension of these Works has now definitely
been decided upon and the Surveyor's recommendations
have been accepted by your Council and instructions
have been given for the preparation of plans and other
details. The scheme consists in additional pumping
plant, bacterial tanks purification area, furnaces, and in
enlargement of the buildings. This will cost about
£27,000.
DRAINAGE.
Eighty-five connections have been made to the
sewerage system, and an equal number to the surface
water system. Through these connections the sewage
from about 200 houses will ultimately flow. Eight cesspools
have been closed.
