There was a balance of £7 left at the end of
the year.
The permanent buildings have accommodation
for 42 beds besides cots, and without reducing the
air space below 2,000c. ft., could afford room for 54
patients; the iron building could also accommodate
16 beds, so that there is room altogether for 70
patients; even this has been barely sufficient on one
or two occasions, and considering our population of
80,000, does not come up to Dr. Thorne Thorne's
estimate of one bed for every 1,000 of population,
and at our present rate of increase will soon fall far
short of it.
PATIENTS.
There have been 364 patients under treatment
during the year, including 17 that were remaining
in the Hospital on January 1st. There have been
on an average 46 patients every day throughout
the year.
