1 cannot close my report without bearing testimony to the
great zeal and energy displayed by Mr. Johnson. During the past
year the work of the department has very materially increased,
owing to the small pox outbreak, and the new Act relating to
workshops, etc.
Although this increase has taken place, I can say with confidence,
that all new responsibility has been thoroughly met, and
there has been no falling off in the high state of efficiency of the
work generally.
Again I have the pleasure of tendering my sincere thanks to
Mr. Johnson and the Staff for their great assistance, and I am of
opinion that the manner in which my instructions were executed in
regard to small pox patients and contacts in all probability prevented
a much more severe outbreak in Wimbledon.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient servant,
E. POCKLINGTON.
Medical Officer of Health.
